National Heating and Air Conditioning offers air sealing services for residential and commercial buildings throughout the Cincinnati, Ohio metro region. Air sealing is one of the most important upgrades a homeowner or building owner can make from an energy and comfort standpoint, and is often overlooked as a means of lowering energy bills throughout the year.
What Is Air Sealing?
The biggest culprit for energy waste in most North American buildings is air leakage. Believe it or not, the little cracks and gaps in your home’s building envelope often add up to the equivalent of leaving a large window open year round, allowing warm conditioned air to escape in the winter, and allowing cool conditioned air to be replaced by hot outdoor air in the summer. Air sealing is the process of identifying the biggest air leaks (most of which typically occur in the attic and crawlspace), and sealing them with some combination of foam, caulking and other products. Reducing air leakage in a building can lead to significant energy savings as well as a more comfortable home year round.
Air Sealing and Insulation: Better Together
Most insulation products are given an R-value (which measures their thermal resistance, or how well they prevent the transfer of heat) in a controlled laboratory environment. In the real world, air leakage around insulation materials often reduces the actual R-value of the product. The result is poor performing insulation, and an uncomfortable and inefficient home.
At National Heating and Cooling, we believe in air sealing in tandem with insulation upgrades, in order to maximize the effectiveness of the insulation product and to create a more comfortable and more energy efficient home for you.
